Texas resident Aric Harding came home to his flooded house south of Houston Wednesday to collect toys for his children.
A father of seven, he wanted to grab stuffed animals and other items to comfort them as they took shelter in a home nearby.
When he saw the family's piano still dry, he "decided to take a moment and play and take it all in," he told CNN Thursday.
Harding posted a video of the moment to Instagram.
"I think it's all finally sinking in a little," he wrote. "What we used to have going as a city is gone.
"I really think God is going to do something completely new here. I am excited to see the new beauty in the suffering."
The video had been viewed almost 6,000 times by Thursday.
Harding told CNN he has been touched by the response to the post.
"One person, who I don'r even know, offered to send us a new piano," he said.
